enjoyed this interview, well done, one of the best so far with Hamish MacDonald, q. and a. style, and as a reader in far away Taiwan, with origins in the USA, i must say that "Finitude" is, my estimation, one of the most important new novels of the 21 century, not only because of well it's written, with both humor and serious climate ideas taken into account, it's an important wake up call for humanity, the world, about what climate chaos might be like in the distant future, and it's food for thought, in addition to being a great, fun read. I read it in one sitting here in Taiwan, all night. Powerful first chapter, great middle and the ending is quite optimistic and yet grave at the same time. I believe that Hamish is the next Douglas Adams of the UK, and he will soon be discovered as such. You are lucky to have such a talented -- and compassionate man of the 21st century -- who migrated to your shores. James Lovelock and George Monbiot and Mark Lynas and Fiona Harvey should read this book. Soon! It's that important. A novel yes. But a wake up call as well. Your interview put it all in perspective in a new way for his fans around the world, and I took the liberty of reprinting your interview on my blog set in the year 3010 A.D. -- with credit to you, sir. See link - Danny Boy Bloom in Taiwanville (1949 - 2032)

I've only just come across Hamish's work but I am already a big fan. What I love is the light hearted way he is able to execute incredibly serous ideas.

I liked that phrase, too. And this bit:

"I’ve come to see that the bits I feel apologetic or shy about, the bits I would cut, are the things that my readers say they love the most."

Really enjoyed this interview too--the stuff about finding joy self-publishing, and also the part about being annoyed by gay stereotypes.

Loved the phrase "The gravity and beauty of Edinburgh" :-)
